On Monday, DocuSign named Iesha Berry as its first-ever Chief Diversity and Engagement Officer.

This newly created role places Berry in charge of the digital signature and agreement automation company’s Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging strategy and serves to continue to evolve DocuSign's philanthropic and sustainability efforts. She will report to Chief People Officer Joan Burke and spearhead initiatives to support the impact of employee resource groups and oversee inclusive talent development, including diverse pipeline sourcing and outreach.

Berry brings a litany of HR and diversity experience from companies in the tech banking industries. Most recently, she was the Chief Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Officer at Slalom. She also was the SVP of Market and Site Human Resources at Bank of America and Head of Global Diversity & Inclusion Business Management at Microsoft.

"As we reflected on our journey to become a more diverse, inclusive and sustainable company, it became clear we needed a new role to focus on the important work we are doing to enhance the DNA of DocuSign,” Burke revealed in the company’s announcement. “Iesha brings the right balance of deep experience, fresh thinking and long-term vision to lead our journey and we're excited to add her to our team.”

Berry has a significant role as DocuSign grapples with its return to office and employee relations. According to The New York Times, DocuSign has attempted to bring its 7,000 employees back to the office at least four times but has faced delays each time. These delays have reportedly caused confusion and resentment among employees. When employees return to their desks, it will be Berry and Burke’s responsibility to craft an experience that appeals to workers and creates an inclusive and engaging environment they actually want to return to.

"The company is in such a unique place, in terms of both its business trajectory and in its position to be a leader in diversity, sustainability and social impact,” Berry said in the company’s press release. "I look forward to helping DocuSign set a new standard when it comes to diversity, inclusion, sustainability and impact efforts and supporting both our employees and customers on our journey with us."
