Scott Bombaugh

Scott Bombaugh was named acting chief technology officer and executive vice president in August 2020. He previously served as vice president of Engineering Systems where he led the design, development, deployment and lifecycle support for mail processing systems and associated software, retail and delivery technology and scanning solutions. He also oversaw the research and development of the Postal Service’s next generation delivery vehicles.

In his previous role as director, Technology Development and Application, Bombaugh led the research, development and lifecycle support for letter, flat and package sorting equipment and delivery scanning systems. He began his Postal Service career as a mechanical engineer in 1988, where he worked on the development of automated, package-sorting systems and the introduction of barcoding technology for packages. Since 1997, he has managed various groups including Bulk Mail Systems, Package Technology and Material Handling Technology.

Bombaugh earned his Bachelor of Science and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia and is a licensed professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
