In two separate SEC filings, Uber announced that Arianna Huffington and Matt Cohler have stepped down from the company's board of directors. Huffington is stepping down to focus on her wellness start-up, Thrive, while Cohler is stepping down as a result of Benchmark losing its board seat.

In a statement on Twitter, Arianna Harrington said: "This week, for the second consecutive time, I was unable to attend the board meeting in person due to my Thrive Global commitments in New York. And given Thrive's growth, it's become clear to me that I will no longer be able to give my board duties the attention they deserrvice, so I will be stepping down. There were no disagreements whatsoever with the company that led to this decision. It has been an unforgettable three-year ride, and I'm grateful to have been able to work alongside all of you and witness the incredible work of thousands of Uber employees around the world. I look forward to keeping in touch and watching Uber go from strength to strength."

Cohler's departure from the board ends a tumultuous relationship between Benchmark and Uber. The venture firm sued former CEO Travis Kalanick for fraud in an attempt to remove him from the board. An investigation into the company’s culture ultimately resulted in Kalanick’s exit as CEO. Benchmark will no longer retains it's seat after Cohler's departure.

In a statement, Cohler stated: “My partners at Benchmark and I have had the privilege of being part of the Uber journey since the Series A nearly a decade ago. I’m thrilled with the company’s position, excited for the road ahead, and extend my deepest thanks to all of Uber’s past and present employees, directors, drivers, and customers.”

Uber's board now consists of nine members including former CEO Travis Kalanick, co-founder Garrett Camp, and board chairman Ronald Sugar. Early Uber employee Ryan Graves stepped down in May 2019 just two weeks after the company went public.
