American Express Adds Hotel CEO to Board

American Express announced that it has added a wealth of hospitality industry experience to its board of directors with the election of Thomas J. Baltimore, Jr.

Effective January 27, 2021, Baltimore, the Chairman, CEO, and President of Park Hotels & Resorts, will provide American Express with insights from his more two decades guiding global organizations through significant changes in travel and lodging industry, like the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a press release, American Express Chairman and CEO Stephen J. Squeri said ,“He also brings extensive capital markets knowledge, and I know our Board will benefit greatly from his insights as we continue to execute our strategy and make investments to structure the company for long term growth.”

Baltimore has been at the helm of Park Hotels & Resorts since 2016, shortly before its spin-off from Hilton Worldwide. As the head of Park Hotels & Resorts he led the expansion into new markets, including with the acquisition of Chesapeake Lodging Trust in 2019, and has been leading the company’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Before his current position, Baltimore was the CEO of RLJ Lodging Trust from 2011 to 2016. He also served as President of hospitality investment firm RLJ Development and held a variety of roles at Hilton, Marriott International, and PwC.
