The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has appointed Leigh Tavaziva as its new Group Chief Operating Officer. She will step into her new office in February 2021 and will serve as a member of the BBC Board and Executive Committee, where she will report to Director-General Tim Davie.
Tavaziva will oversee a wide portfolio of departments as the new Group COO, including Design and Engineering, Finance, Legal, Commercial Rights and Business Affairs, Quality, Risk and Assurance, and Procurement.
Her prior experience is just as diverse as her new management duties, as she started her professional career in theatre as a classical ballerina and then contemporary dance artist. Before accepting the offer to join the BBC, Tavaziva. Was the Managing Director of Customer Operations at British Gas and a Group Director of Strategy and Transformation at British Gas' parent company, Centrica. She is a graduate of the University of South Africa and a qualified Chartered Management Accountant.
In the BBC’s announcement, Davie said, “This is an important appointment for the BBC as we look to become even more efficient and offer greater value to every licence fee payer. Leigh has an extremely impressive track record of leading change, driving efficiency and helping big organisations simplify to realise their full potential. We are very pleased that she will be joining us at the BBC in the New Year."
