McDonald USA's Chief Field Officer, Charlie Strong, will be retiring after more than 50 years at the company.

According to Insider, Strong had announced his retirement in late January, ending his five-decade-long career at the company.

In his role as Chief Field Officer, Strong led strategy, talent, and brand development at McDonalds. He helped deliver long term growth strategies for over 5,700 restaurants in the United States and became zone president in 2014.

Strong’s career at McDonald’s started in 1970 when he was a college student in western Massachusetts. He was employed as a crew member for the restaurant. He slowly worked his way up the corporate ranks and held various positions from Field Service Manager to District Manager to General Manager at the company. Many have signaled Strong’s retirement from the company as an end of an era at Mcdonald’s.

"Charlie's System-first mindset, characteristic honesty, and far-reaching wisdom will not be easily or quickly replaced. His is a legacy that will live on, in big and little ways, in our nearly 14,000 restaurants every day," Joe Erlinger, the head of the US business said to Insider. "It's not easy to put something of that magnitude into words so, for now, I'll simply say: we'll miss you, Charlie.”
