Cigna announced no fewer than six executive shakeups today, as the company gears up to accelerate growth. Of all the company’s new leaders who will step into new roles effective January 1, 2020, the largest announcement was that company veteran Brian Evanko has been promoted to be the company’s new Chief Financial Officer.
As CFO, Evanko will assume leadership for all of the global health service company’s financial operations and functions, including the investment management and underwriting units. He will continue to report to CEO David Cordani.
Evanko will take over the role from Eric Palmer, who will become the President and Chief Operating Officer of Evernorth, Cigna's health services unit.
Evanko has been with Cigna since 1998 and over his 22-year career he has held multiple key leadership roles including his current role as President of Government Business.
In addition to Evanko’s promotion, Cigna announced Aparna Abburi will be promoted to President of Medicare and Amy Bricker will transition to become the President of Express Scripts. But the company didn’t stop there, it also promoted Everett Neville to be the company’s EVP of Strategy and Business Development and announced that Matt Manders will assume the role of Cigna’s President of Government and Solutions.
“These leaders have a track record of driving growth, and a relentless focus on supporting the diverse needs of all those we serve around the world by delivering on our promise of making health care more affordable, predictable, and simple,” Cordani stated, "I am pleased that our long-standing commitment to talent development allows us to strategically place our seasoned team of leaders in key positions that will maximize value-creation and value-generation for our customers, clients, and shareholders."
