The Walt Disney Company has named Alan Bergman as the Chairman of Disney Studios Content. Bergman, who starts his new role on January 1, 2021, has jointly led the Studios group alongside Alan Horn as Co-Chairmen since May 2019.

Horn will stay on as the division’s Chief Creative Officer and both will report directly to CEO Bob Chapek. As Chief Creative Officer, Horn will focus on the creative aspects of the Studios’ content pipeline and with Bergman on the group's creative approach.

As the sole Chairman, Bergman will oversee creative, production, marketing, and operations for Disney Studios Content. This is no small task as Disney Studios encompasses Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, and Blue Sky Studios, as well as Disney Theatrical Productions.

Bergman is well-prepared to take on the responsibilities by himself as he is a 24-year veteran of Disney. Prior to being named Co-Chairman in 2019, he served as President of The Walt Disney Studios from 2005 to 2019, where he was a central figure in the integrations of Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and the Twenty-First Century Fox film studios. Under his leadership Studios has released at least 25 films that have earned $1 billion or more at the global box office.

In the company’s announcement, Chapek stated, “The Walt Disney Studios’ achievements under the leadership of Alan Horn and Alan Bergman have been nothing short of extraordinary. Having worked closely for years with Alan Bergman, an exceptional leader and proven executive, I couldn’t be more pleased to name him as Chairman.”

“I am grateful to take on the role of Chairman of the Studios as I believe deeply in our people, culture, and the work we do,” said Bergman, adding, “I am also thankful to Bob Iger and Alan Horn for their leadership and the trust they’ve placed in me over the years and to Bob Chapek for his continued support, especially during this challenging year.”
