After losing Fidji Simo to Instacart, Facebook has elevated longtime executive Tom Alison to run its core social media app, according to Bloomberg.

Simo, who had been the Head of the Facebook app, was announced as the next CEO of online grocery giant Instacart ahead of its expected IPO. She takes on that new role in August.

Alison, who has been a product and engineering executive for tech titan, will now be in charge of the Facebook app’s day-to-day operations as well as the app’s development and strategy, including its News Feed, Stories, Groups, Video, Marketplace, Gaming, News, Dating, Ads features.

As Bloomberg notes, he will be the fourth person to helm Facebook’s flagship app over the past four years.

Alison was Simo’s number two and even took control of the app while she was on leave, providing him with a bit of experience to help him transition into his new role. Until now he had served as a VP of Engineering at Facebook and supported engineering and product management for the News Feed, monetization, sharing, search, news, integrity, and its core experience teams. Alison joined Facebook in 2010 after the app he co-founded, called Zenbe, was partially acquired by the social media company.
