Morgan Stanley has named Peter Akwaboah as the new COO for Technology, Operations & Firm Resilience, per a memo seen by Insider. He will report directly to Rob Rooney, financial services giant’s Head of Technology, Operations, and Firm Resilience.
In his new role, Akwaboah will oversee the financial services giant’s operations and technology strategy. As the head of a team of 300 people, he will focus on transforming how Morgan Stanley’s clients and employees interact with the bank’s offerings and services.
In the memo obtained by Insider, Rooney said, "He brings significant experience, knowledge, and leadership skills to this strategically important role having led teams and worked across technology and operations functions during the course of his career.”
Akwaboah initially joined Morgan Stanley in 2015 as the bank’s COO for operations. Before that he spent a decade at the Royal Bank of Scotland.
He also serves as the co-chair of the Morgan Stanley Black Employee Network in New York, a role he is passionate about. "We’re making progress,” he stated in an interview with Morgan Stanely. “Everybody has started moving in the right direction, and a lot of that has to do with the awareness efforts of the network. Because the more you educate, the more you move the needle forward.” During his time in Morgan Stanley's London office, he sponsored the African & Caribbean Business Alliance network.
