Jack Ma steps down as Chairman of Alibaba
Jack Ma has stepped down as Chairman of Alibaba, the company he co-founded exactly 20 years ago. Ma stepped down as CEO in 2013 and announced his plans to retire as Chairman exactly a year ago, saying at the time he wanted to spend more time focusing on education. Daniel Zhang, the company’s current CEO, will take over as Chairman. Ma will continue serving as a board member until Alibaba’s annual general shareholders’ meeting in 2020.
Disney CEO Bob Iger resigns from Apple board
Disney CEO Bob Iger has resigned from Apple’s board of directors, the company announced in an SEC filing on Friday. Disney’s streaming video service, Disney+, which launches on November 12, will compete with Apple’s streaming service, Apple TV+. Apple had previously said that Iger did not have any “material direct or indirect” conflicts of interest. Iger was personal friends with the late Steve Jobs who served on Disney’s board until his death in 2011.
Seth Dallaire Named Chief Revenue Officer for Instacart
Instacart, a North American leader in online grocery, has announced that ad sales veteran Seth Dallaire will join the company as its first Chief Revenue Officer, beginning in November. In this newly-created role, Dallaire will oversee Instacart's growing brand marketing partnerships business, which allows brands to utilize the Instacart platform to reach online consumers across North America directly at the point of purchase
Starbucks Announces Three New Appointments to Board of Directors
Starbucks announced the appointment of Richard E. Allison, Chief Executive Officer of Domino’s; Andrew Campion, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Nike; and Isabel Ge Mahe, Apple’s Vice President and Managing Director of Greater China, to the Starbucks Board of Directors. These appointments increase Starbucks Board of Directors to 13, which includes Satya Nadelli, Howard Schultz, and others.
