Pinterest announced the appointment of Gokul Rajaram, a DoorDash executive who leads the Caviar premium food service, to its board of directors and as a member of its Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. DoorDash, the on-demand food delivery startup, announced this week that it had confidentially filed for an initial public offering.
Rajaram joined DoorDash when the company acquired Caviar from payments company Square last year for $410 million in a cash and stock deal. At Square, Rajaram spent five years heading the Caviar business, and he also he led several product development teams. His experience includes spent time at Facebook as a product director for ads, where he helped Facebook transition its advertising business to become mobile-first. Earlier in his career, Rajaram served as a Product Management Director for Google AdSense, where he helped launch the product and grow it into a substantial portion of Google’s business.
"Gokul brings great experience and innovation to our Board and we look forward to his many contributions," said Ben Silbermann, CEO and co-founder of Pinterest. "His proven track record in shopping, digital advertising and content will be incredibly beneficial as we continue to bring inspirational experiences to users and advertisers on Pinterest."
He joins Pinterest’s board at a time when the company is growing its business with recently reported revenues of just over $1 billion in 2019, up 51% over the previous year. Pinterest’s ad revenues contributed substantially to this growth, and Rajarman’s digital advertising experience should be especially relevant as the company focuses on scaling its ad business.
