Pinterest’s Global Head of Inclusion and Diversity, Tyi McCray, has left the company a little less than a year since she was hired in August 2020.

A Pinterest spokesperson independently confirmed to The Org on Tuesday that McCray would be leaving the company. According to an internal email obtained by Protocol, McCray’s last day will be July 15.

In the email, CEO Ben Silbermann wrote that Deb Elam, former Head of Diversity at General Electric will “advise and provide support” for the inclusion and diversity and leadership teams.

In June 2020, former Pinterest employees Aerica Shimizu Banks and Ifeoma Ozoma came forward with allegations of discrimination and retaliation that they experienced as two Black women at the company. McCray joined the team shortly after, and the position was moved under the executive leadership team.

“Tyi came to Pinterest during a critical moment in time for the company to help build out our Inclusion and Diversity strategy,” a Pinterest spokesperson said in a statement sent to The Org. "We want to thank Tyi for her many contributions and the time and effort she spent getting us to where we are today. We recognize there’s more work to be done and are committed to continuing on our journey to build a culture grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion."

“I’m proud of the work I’ve done during my time at Pinterest,” McCray said in a statement sent to The Org. “We’ve made progress in increasing diversity within our overall company demographics, and set a bold vision for the future. Pinterest has taken significant steps that demonstrate its whole-hearted commitment to diversity and inclusion, and we have established a strong foundation for the continual work of building an inclusive company.”
