Tesla loses yet another executive as General Counsel exits after just 2 months

The executive exodus at Tesla continues as General Counsel, Dane Butswinkas, exits the company after just 2 months on the job. Butswinkas is returning to the law firm Williams & Connolly where he worked for 30 years before joining Tesla. Sources familiar with the matter cite "a poor cultural fit" and a desire to return home according to CNN.

Butswinkas' departure follows a string of high-profile executive departures at Tesla. Most recently, CFO Deepak Ahuja announced he was retiring after rejoining the company in February 2017. It is becoming increasingly clear that Elon Musk is not the easiest person to work with which could become a significant issue for Tesla as operational complexity grows.

Jonathan Chang, who was most recently vice president of legal at Tesla, has taken over the general counsel position. Chang will report directly to Elon Musk.
