The hiring and onboarding platform Greenhouse has been around since 2012. Co-founded by two college friends Daniel Chait and Jon Stross, its onboarding and applicant-tracking software is used by major tech companies like Airbnb, Uber and Pinterest.

It’s raised over $110 million in funding and is backed by Frontline Ventures, Riverwood Capital and Benchmark. Though the org has expanded to over 250 employees, some of its earliest hires still remain with the company.

“As a ‘start-up,’ I love seeing names of people who have been with us for many years!” Senior Manager of Media & Analyst Relations Kim Maynard said. “The fact we have hires who are still here is so cool, in my opinion.”

Take a look at Chait and Stross's hiring strategy when building out their own hiring platform.

Before Greenhouse, Chait co-founded Lab49, a global firm providing technology consulting solutions for investment banks, while Stross had spent his whole career in product, most recently working as a General Manager of International for Baby Center — a Johnson & Johnson-owned company.

“We realized we both had this experience, not as recruiters, of saying ‘how do you build an awesome company? Or how do you become awesome at hiring?’” Stross said. “If we could bridge that gap, and help people become great at hiring, that would be really valuable.”
