The world is becoming increasingly open and transparent, but most companies still don’t show their employees on their website. According to our research, about 60% of companies have some sort of team page but about 80% of them only include top management. That means that less than 20% of companies share their full team on their website. Why is that?
There are three possible reasons:
- You don't have a team
- Your team sucks
- You're afraid of losing your team
You don’t have a team
It’s obviously pretty difficult to show off your team if you don’t have one, but even if it’s just you (or a few people) then it’s worthwhile having a team page. In fact, when you’re a small company then the only thing you really have is your team, so you should show it off as much as possible. Trying to “fake” a big team is pretty difficult so you can just as well celebrate that you're a small but nimble team - a lot of people will see this as an advantage.
Your team sucks
Some companies aren’t proud of their team or don’t think their team is important enough to talk about on their website. This is not only very depressing but could also be detrimental to your business. Talking about your team builds trust in your brand, attracts new talent, and makes it easier to collaborate with your company. It also makes your current employees feel part of your mission rather than just a pawn in your dream.
You’re afraid of losing your team
A lot of executives and startup founders are afraid of losing their best talent. This is a legitimate concern but the way to avoid this happening is not by trying to keep your team a secret. Your employees are being contacted by headhunters via LinkedIn on a daily basis and you better just get used to that thought because it isn’t going away anytime soon. People aren't staying at your company because you’re locking them away in a basement – in fact this might be the reason why they’re leaving. Celebrate your employees, treat them well, and they will stay with you for longer.
