Schultz, who had been the company’s VP of Product Growth, will retain the responsibilities from his previous position as he steps into his new role. As CMO, Schultz will focus on building trust and value across the company’s portfolio of brands. He will also utilize his experience in segmentation, targeting, and measurement to reach users more meaningfully through our product.
He first joined Facebook in November 2007 as an analyst and quickly worked his way up to run marketing, analytics, and internationalization at the tech giant. He also is the exec sponsor of Facebook’s Pride resource group. Before Facebook, Schultz ran his own websites and worked as a marketing manager for eBay.
In a Facebook post, Schultz announced, “I am super proud to be Facebook’s next CMO. Antonio Lucio has left huge shoes and a great team behind and I’m really excited to get stuck in with them.” He also stated, “I have grown up in online marketing and believe deeply in the economic empowerment it can bring, its ability to show people more tailored, relevant, less annoying ads, and the fact it allows us to serve everyone by offering our products for free.”
Lucio commented, “Congratulations Alex Schultz. Combining consumer and growth marketing is long overdue. It is something that I recommended and support. Given the technical and company knowledge required to pull it through, there is no one in the world more qualified than you. This move will enable us to integrate efforts across the wholistic product experience and will make us more effective and efficient."
