Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk appointed Patrick Jany as its new chief financial officer. Jany joins the company from Swiss specialty chemicals maker Clariant, where he served as the finance chief since 2006. Jany, who will also join Maersk’s executive board, steps into the CFO role on May 1.

Stephan Lynen, a 20-year Clariant veteran and the current head of the company’s additives business unit, will succeed Jany as Clariant’s finance chief.

Jany replaces Carolina Dybeck Happe, who left Maersk in November after less than a year in the role to become CFO at General Electric. Dybeck Happe’s departure from the company came just weeks after Maersk chief operating officer Soren Toft left to join rival Mediterranean Shipping Co.

“I am pleased to welcome Patrick Jany to A. P. Moller - Maersk where he will play a key role in the acceleration of our strategic transformation. Patrick brings solid financial experience and a proven record of managing cost discipline as well as profitable growth through M&A and innovation. I look forward to our cooperation,” said Maersk CEO Søren Skou.
