German neobank N26 has hired a new CFO, Jan Kemper, as it continues to grow its executive team. When he starts in the second half of 2021, he will report directly to N26 co-founder Maximilian Tayenthal, who will take on the role of co-CEO alongside CEO and co-founder Valentin Stalf. Both co-founders will retain oversight of their current areas of responsibility within N26.

Kemper, who has a strong background in M&A and IPOs, will provide the bank with decades of experience leading and building finance and operations teams. He also brings extensive expertise in scaling companies of all sizes and stages of growth.

Before joining N26, Kemper worked as the Managing Director and CFO of European multimodal travel booking platform Omio. He also was the Group CFO at German entertainment company ProsiebenSat.1 Media from 2017 to 2019 and served as the CFO of Zalando, where he helped grow the company from a Berlin-based start-up to one of Europe’s most successful e-commerce companies. While at Zalando he led the company’s successful IPO on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2014.

In a blog post, Tayenthal, said, “I’m very happy to welcome another seasoned leader to the N26 family. Jan’s track record in scaling companies from start-up through IPO will be invaluable as we set in motion our plans for the future.”

“It’s a really exciting time to be joining N26, a dynamic and successful disruptor in the finance industry with the opportunity to provide radically better banking for millions,” Kemper commented. “I look forward to working with their team of leaders and innovators as we accelerate N26 towards its growth ambitions in the coming years.”
