Every Monday, we bring our members a digest of noteworthy personnel changes and an update from The Org HQ. Please send us feedback or suggestions at hello@theorg.com.
The big news this week was Diane Greene being replaced as Head of Cloud at Google. According to a blog post, she only planned to stay at Google for two years, but rumor has it that her performance was not as strong as expected. Alphabet raised eyebrows in its earnings call last month, when the company gave less information than it had in the past on the size and growth rate of the cloud unit. She will now be replaced by Thomas Kurian from Oracle that ironically has been struggling with their own cloud unit.
Calls for Mark Zuckerberg to relinquish his dual role as CEO and Chairman have intensified following an article in The New York Times about how Facebook tried to cover up the Russian meddling in the 2016 Presidential election. This follows a string of executive departures related to Facebook’s use of personal data. Will Zuckerberg step down as Chairman and appoint an independent director to oversee the board? Check out the blog post here.
