Bed Bath & Beyond Hires Walgreen's Chief Merchandising Officer Joe Hartsig
Hartsig will also become president of Bed Bath & Beyond’s Harmon Stores business, which oversees shops that sells health essentials and beauty items.
Reporting directly to CEO Mark Tritton, Hartsig will be responsible for developing and implementing Bed Bath & Beyond's Product strategy, and he will oversee the company's omni-channel merchandising, planning, and owned brand strategies. As President of Harmon, he will be responsible for developing the growth strategy across the Harmon brands.
Bed Bath & Beyond announced last month that it was cutting around 500 jobs from its corporate workforce, as part of a larger restructuring plan with the goal of trimming expenses.
This move marks Tritton’s first major hire since he joined the company as CEO in November 2019, from Target.
Commenting on the hire, Tritton said, “To rebuild our business, we need leaders of change. Joe's experience as one of the leading innovators in retail makes him perfectly suited to help re-establish our authority in the Home, Baby and Beauty markets and we're excited to welcome him to this critically important role.”
