John has previously worked as a Molecular Biology at the Allen Institute for Brain Science, where they developed genome editing tools and TALENS technology to control neuron development. John has also worked as a research scientist at VLST Corp, where they developed a target discovery method and optimized antibody binding domain against complex targets. Dr. Alex Eng is a bioinformatics scientist who currently works at [A-Alpha Bio](/org/a-alpha-bio). Alex has over eight years of experience in the field, having worked as a senior fellow at the [University of Washington](/org/university-of-washington) and as a software engineer intern at [Zynx Health](/org/zynx-health). Alex has also done research in both biology and computer science as a summer researcher at [Harvey Mudd College](/org/harvey-mudd-college).

 Dr. Eng's work revolves around data analysis and bioinformatics consultation. Alex has experience working with various software packages and has overseen the migration of computational infrastructure during a lab relocation. Alex is skilled in statistical analysis and has identified potential targets for future therapeutics in their work with infants with cystic fibrosis. In addition to their work at [A-Alpha Bio](/org/a-alpha-bio), they continue to consult on various bioinformatic and statistical analyses for other labs.

Ruchi Bansal is a scientist at [A-Alpha Bio](/org/a-alpha-bio). Prior to their current position, they were a graduate student research assistant at [Purdue University](/org/purdue-university) from September 2016 to May 2022. In this role, they designed and executed experiments to investigate the role of primary cilia in neuronal signaling through the implementation of in vitro and in vivo systems resulting in 3 peer-reviewed scientific publications. Ruchi also established and improved protocols to culture primary hypothalamic neurons from neonatal mice. This system is used to study the function of neuronal cilia through confocal live imaging, isolation of extracellular vesicles, and analysis of electrophysiological activity. Additionally, Bansal managed lab operations and consumables worth $10,000 to maximize productivity in a cost-effective manner. Finally, they mentored and supervised incoming students to understand the scientific method, design experiments and analyze data.

Jade founded his transactional consulting firm, Jade Brown Associates, over 13 years ago and has been successfully advising and procuring licensing transactions for clients year after year. Jade began his career at Eli Lilly and Company and spent over 12 years in various cross-functional disciplines including finance, marketing/sales, and business development. After Lilly, Jade worked for 6 years as Chief Business Officer and Head of Business Development for companies such as Xencor, Cell Therapeutics, and Nastech Pharmaceuticals. Jade earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and his B.S. in finance from Indiana University.

Eric Klavins is a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Washington and co-inventor of the AlphaSeq platform. Eric runs an interdisciplinary group of engineers, biologists, experimentalists, and theorists, all focused on engineering life. His current projects include synthetic multicellular systems with engineered bacteria and yeast, modeling and design for synthetic multicellular systems, and laboratory automation. He received his MS and Ph.D. in computer science and engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

David co-invented AlphaSeq while working on his PhD in Bioengineering at the [University of Washington](/org/university-of-washington) with scientific advisors David Baker and Eric Klavins. He is an expert in developing and optimizing high-impact technologies by combining molecular biology, genetic engineering, and next-generation sequencing.

David's thesis work focused on the development of yeast-based tools using synthetic biology techniques for high-throughput screening of protein-protein interactions. Prior to their current position, they interned at Luminex Corporation and the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute.

Chris Gibson is currently a Scientific Advisor at [A-Alpha Bio](/org/a-alpha-bio). Prior to that, they were a Research Scientist/Engineer 3 - DNA Assembly and Sequencing specialist at the [University of Washington](/org/university-of-washington) from June 2016 to May 2021. In this role, Chris developed UW BIOFAB capabilities in DNA assembly, strain construction, and sequencing. Chris also collaborated with researchers in the UW Institute for Protein Design to identify bottlenecks in creating libraries of designed proteins, propose solutions and execute pilot-scale experiments.

From January 2013 to June 2013, Chris was a Lab Technician Assistant at [Everett Community College](/org/everett-community-college). In their role at [Athira Pharma](/org/athira-pharma), they worked with a group of advisors and consultants to support Athira's goals for strategic pharma partnering, financing, and development of brain penetrant neurotropic small molecules. At Tetra Discovery Partners LLC, they served as a Member of Board of Directors and was focused on developing new treatments for depression, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Prior to that, they were the Sr. Director of Strategy for the Institute for Protein Design at [UW Medicine](/org/northwest-hospital-medical-center) where they were responsible for leading the institute's efforts in developing computational methods for protein design and applying them to therapeutic discovery.

At [Adaptive](/org/adaptive), he built and led the Antigen Map Project, in which [Adaptive](/org/adaptive) and Microsoft set out to jointly learn how to “read” the immune system for disease diagnosis. He is now using his expertise in sequencing, proteomics, and computational analysis to build and optimize [A-Alpha Bio](/org/a-alpha-bio)'s data science pipeline.

David Noble is currently a Data Scientist at [A-Alpha Bio](/org/a-alpha-bio). Prior to that, they were an Undergraduate Researcher at the Ingolia Lab at University of California, Berkeley from September 2019 to May 2021. There, they developed a statistical framework and analytic pipeline for the novel high-throughput sequencing assay CiBER-Seq in R using GLMs and empirical Bayes method, applied ML algorithms to elucidate protein domain enrichment in a novel protein tethering assay, supported ongoing efforts in the lab with proficiency in Python, R, data cleaning, statistical modeling, communicated methods and presented findings at symposiums with concise presentations and data visualizations.

From August 2019 to May 2020, David was a Fellow at the UC Berkeley Coleman Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership where they implemented principles of human centered design to research and design health tech solutions for marginalized communities.

Arpita Sen is currently a Senior Scientist at [A-Alpha Bio](/org/a-alpha-bio), where they work on developing assays for olfactory GPCRs and optimizing them by DOE. Prior to this, they were a Scientist at Aromyx Corporation from May 2019 to July 2020, where their key responsibilities included assay development for olfactory GPCRs, assay optimization by DOE, and microscopy and image analysis to measure receptor expression.

Before their work at Aromyx Corporation, Arpita was a Co-Founder at Proteome.AI from March 2018 to April 2019. At Proteome.AI, they worked on developing an unbiased approach towards descriptive, diagnostic, and predictive analysis of data using GPU clusters, multivariate analysis, and predictive analysis.

From May 2014 to December 2017, Arpita worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at [UC Berkeley](/org/uc-berkeley). And prior to that, they were a PhD Fellow at [Purdue University](/org/purdue-university) from August 2008 to December 2013. Her very first position was as a Project Assistant at the University of Calcutta from August 2007 to July 2008.

Parker Shaffer is a Lab Operations Associate at [A-Alpha Bio](/org/a-alpha-bio). Prior to that, they were a Business Development Representative at [GrowthPlug](/org/growthplug) and an Admitted Student Weekend Coordinator at [Gonzaga University](/org/gonzaga-university).

Parker has always been interested in helping others and making a difference. As Business Development Representative, they helped clients by establishing solid relationships and providing them with information about [GrowthPlug](/org/growthplug)'s products. Parker generated their first sale within their first 25 days, setting a company record.

As Admitted Student Weekend Coordinator, Parker was responsible for orchestrating events for 500 admitted students over a 24-hour period. Parker also secured funding and donations from local businesses to help cover the costs of the event. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Parker assisted in the formation of a novel online experience for admitted students.

Colleen Shikany is a research associate at [A-Alpha Bio](/org/a-alpha-bio). Colleen previously worked as an undergraduate research assistant at Seattle Children's from September 2018 to December 2020. In this role, they gained significant experience in many molecular biology techniques, including electrophysiology slice experiments, behavior experiments, DNA extraction and purification, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, tissue slicing via cryostat, mouse handling (breeding, weaning, histology), microscopy, and academic writing. Outside of work, Padma enjoys gardening, cooking farm to table, and traveling.

Lisa brings 20 years of experience establishing and improving processes to meet the rapidly evolving demands of both start-up and publicly held biotech companies. Prior to transitioning to the private sector, Lisa received her PhD in Immunology from the [University of Washington](/org/university-of-washington) and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Benaroya Research Institute. When not solving puzzles at work, Lisa can be found working problems at the climbing gym or providing a warm lap to her favorite feline.
