Matthew Madison has been working in the software engineering field since 1985. Matthew began their career at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a Systems Programmer, where they were a system and network administrator for the School of Engineering's VAXclusters used in education and research. Matthew also developed several tools, system utilities, and libraries for VMS, PRIMOS, AOS/VS, and VM/CMS.

In 1992, Madison began working at TGV, Inc as a Software Engineer/Manager/Director. There they developed, maintained, and provided customer support for MultiNet, the leading TCP/IP suite for VMS. Matthew was also the primary developer of MultiWare, an implementation of Novell NetWare protocols and services for VMS.

Also in 1992, Madison founded MadGoat Software, where they developed and distributed several popular open-source software packages for VMS systems. This included development tools, system utilities, network applications, and a multi-protocol electronic mail system. Matthew sold the e-mail system commercially for several years, with over 200 customers worldwide.

In 1996, Madison joined Cisco Systems as a Principal Engineer (Software). Matthew developed the vision and strategy for transforming the software development environment for Cisco's network operating systems. Matthew also created tools to assist with introspection, analysis, and refactoring of the software, prototyping improvements in modularity, repackaging, and reuse.

In 2015, Madison began working at Sensity Systems as a Principal Engineer. Two years later, in 2017, they joined Verizon as a Distinguished Software Engineer. At Verizon, they were responsible for board bringup, bootloaders, Linux kernel and drivers, toolchains, installation and packageing, system architecture, builds, and release engineering. Matthew also designed and implemented a custom common Linux distribution based on OpenEmbedded/Yocto Project tools for VSC devices.

Since 2019, Madison has been working as a Principal Engineer at both Alcatraz AI and Amazon Web Services.

Matthew Madison attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 1981 to 1985, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
