Doug Buckminster is group president, Global Consumer Services, a role he assumed in February 2018. In this position, he leads the businesses responsible for consumer products and services, digital strategy and capabilities, and risk and information management. He is a member of American Express’ Executive Committee, which is responsible for developing the company's strategic direction and determining key policies affecting the company overall.
Doug previously served as president, Global Consumer Services Group, responsible for growing the consumer and bank partnership businesses in more than 150 countries around the world, a role he assumed in October 2015. Prior to this role, he served as president, Global Network & International Card Services from February 2012, and prior to that, he was president, International Consumer and Small Business Services, responsible for American Express' consumer and small business strategy and growth across 20 international proprietary markets. Doug has also served as regional president for American Express International's Latin America, Canada, and Caribbean (LACC) region, and the general manager of the International Lending and Insurance Services organizations.
He joined American Express in 1985 as part of the Graduate Management Summer Intern Program. Over the course of his career at American Express he has developed deep knowledge of the company's global businesses and products through roles of increasing responsibility across a broad range of disciplines, including finance, systems, risk management, information management, and U.S. and international consumer products and marketing.
Doug serves on the Board of Trustees for the Harlem Children’s Zone, and is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at Boston University Questrom School of Business.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Boston University, and an MBA from New York University.
