Leon Caldwell

Senior Director, Health Equity Strategies and Innovation at American Hospital Association

Leon Caldwell is the Senior Director of Health Equity Strategies and Innovation at the American Hospital Association. Leon has dedicated their career to social justice and equity, working with various organizations to develop interventions that catalyze upward mobility and economic security in communities.

Caldwell began their work in this field as a Senior Research Associate with The Annie E. Casey Foundation, where they trained in Results Based Accountability and Leadership. Leon went on to design and manage the learning agenda and evaluations for the Juvenile Justice Strategy Group (JJSG) and the Evidence Based Practice Group (EBPG).

In 2014, Caldwell became the Senior Research and Founding Director at DeBruce Foundation, ThinkShift. In this role, they were responsible for thought leadership and implementation of strategic direction to connect people seeking 21st Century career preparedness with 21st Century career opportunities.

Most recently, Caldwell has taken on the position of Senior Director, Health Equity Strategies and Innovation at American Hospital Association. In this role, they are working to ensure that all Americans have access to quality healthcare.

Caldwell earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Lehigh University, followed by a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Penn State University. Leon completed an American Psychological Association Accredited Pre-Doctoral Internship at UC Irvine, and went on to earn an M.Ed. in Secondary School Counseling from Lehigh University. Caldwell is currently employed as a counselor at William Penn Charter School.
