Ethan McAfee

CEO / Founder at Amify

Ethan McAfee is the CEO and founder of Amify. Prior to this, they were the Chief Investment Officer of the Ramsey Student Run Endowment at George Washington University from January 2004 to June 2009. There, they created and co-taught an MBA level investment class where students managed a real $1M portfolio invested in the stock market. Ethan taught students the basics of investing, how to analyze industries and stocks, and then had them make buy and sell recommendations to the class. From July 2001 to September 2009, Ethan was also Director of Research, Portfolio Manager, and Partner at Ramsey Asset Management. Ramsey Asset Management is a ~$500M equity long/short hedge fund founded by Russ Ramsey, former founder and Co-CEO of Friedman Billings Ramsey (FBR). Ethan was the first investment professional at the firm which grew from $100M in assets to over $500M by the time they left. Ethan also worked on a new short only hedge fund in 2006 before the stock market crash. The hedge fund had returns of 40% in 2008 while the market was down 40%. Assets grew from zero to $400M, making it one of the ten largest short only hedge funds in the world.

Ethan McAfee received their Masters from The Johns Hopkins University - Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and their Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from Virginia Tech.
