Chris Shaw

VP of Talent Acquisition at Apollo GraphQL

Chris Shaw has extensive experience in talent acquisition and recruiting. Chris began their career as a Senior Recruiter at Riverbed Technology, where they worked on site to recruit for various roles. Chris then joined W.A. Hynes & Co. as a Business Development Manager.

In 2009, Chris transitioned to a role at Google, where they first served as a Senior Engineering Sourcer/Recruiter, responsible for recruiting software engineers. Chris then moved up to the position of Leadership Sourcer/Recruiter, working directly with Google Executive Management to find and recruit elite leaders in software engineering and engineering operations.

After their time at Google, Chris joined Twitter as a Strategic Sourcing Leader, building and managing the sourcing function for the company. Chris worked closely with Twitter Leadership to identify critical hiring areas and exceeded annual hiring targets.

Chris's next role was at Illumio, where they served as the Director of Recruiting. Chris was hired to build Illumio's recruiting program from scratch and successfully grew the company's size while overcoming various challenges.

In 2015, Chris joined Meteor Development Group as the Director of Talent. Chris played a pivotal role in pivoting the company to work on Apollo and GraphQL. Chris also focused on building a repeatable talent acquisition engine.

Chris continued their career at Lazaridis Institute, where they worked as a Mentor & Coach. Chris provided guidance to executive and functional leaders at Canadian startups, with a specific focus on talent acquisition and people operations.

Additionally, Chris served on the advisory board for Lever and currently holds the role of Advisor to the Board at TinyEYE Therapy Services, where they work closely with the company's founders and functional leaders in talent acquisition.

Most recently, Chris joined Apollo GraphQL as the VP of Talent Acquisition. Prior to this role, they served as the Head of Talent Acquisition at the company and also ran people operations. Chris is responsible for all recruiting efforts at Apollo and brings their expertise in HR and recruiting to impact long-term retention.

Throughout their career, Chris has delivered presentations, hosted lunch and learns, and leveraged their two decades of experience in the recruiting world to help companies build efficient talent acquisition processes and scale their teams.

Chris Shaw's education history begins in 1986 when they attended Marquette University High School. Chris then went on to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 1989 to 1994, where they studied Architecture, Urban Planning, and Business. In 1993, they briefly attended Oxford Brookes University for a Summer Programme in Architectural Studies. Following that, from 1994 to 1996, Chris attended Cardinal Stritch University, where they focused on Business and Computer Science.
