Karen Rossell

Co-founder, Managing Director at Applied Negative Emissions Centre

Karen Rossell is the Co-founder and Managing Director at the Applied Negative Emissions Centre. Prior to this, they were a Research Fellow at The University of Edinburgh, where they worked on a project called “Climate-smart resilient communities: Developing Co-Created Adaption Solutions”. In this role, they supported the conceptualisation of innovative resilience and adaptation strategies for communities in Mexico, and participated in the coordination of workshops and presentations in conjunction with local NGO’s and community organisations.

Before their time at The University of Edinburgh, Karen was the Executive Officer at the Blockchain Climate Institute, where they supported ongoing projects in collaboration with the Government of Gibraltar. In this role, they also had capacity building responsibilities as being the first point of contact with volunteers and partners. Additionally, they created social media channels, media-release papers, and organised meetings with high-profile advisors and partners.

Karen has also been involved with several organisations in leadership roles. Karen was the Mexican Chapter Leader for Citizens' Climate Lobby from February 2016 to August 2017, and the National Group Leader for 350.org from October 2015 to August 2017. In addition, they were a Research Assistant at the Centre of Atmospheric Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico from January 2017 to August 2017.

Karen Rossell has a Master's degree in Carbon Management from The University of Edinburgh, and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
