John Beck


John Beck was elected to our board in December 2019. Mr. Beck most recently served as Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Ritter Pharmaceuticals. Since 2012, he has led multiple private businesses as the Chief Executive Officer. From 2008 until 2012, Mr. Beck was Senior Vice President Finance and Operations and Chief Financial Officer at Ardea Biosciences, where he served a key role on the deal team that sold the company to AstraZeneca for $1.2 billion. Prior to Ardea Biosciences, Mr. Beck was Senior Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer at Metabasis Therapeutics, a company he co-founded in 1999. Before Metabasis, he served as Director of Finance of Neurocrine Biosciences. Previously Mr. Beck held financial management positions at various high technology and financial services companies, including General Dynamics and Ernst and Young LLP. He received a B.A. in accounting from the University of Washington and also holds a Th.B. in theology from a Seattle, Washington-based seminary. Mr. Beck is a licensed (inactive status) certified public accountant in the state of California and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Bioscience Financial Officers. He currently also serves on the boards at Clinicon Corporation, August Therapeutics, and Pinnacle Medical Holdings and serves as a financial mentor to UCSD’s TRITON Funds.
