Ryan McDonald

Chief Scientist at ASAPP

Ryan McDonald is the Chief Scientist at ASAPP. Ryan was previously a Research Scientist at Google, where they worked on building state-of-the-art NLP and ML technologies and pushing them to production. Their areas of impact included morphosyntactic analysis, sentiment analysis, multilingual NLP, machine translation, information retrieval and extraction, summarization and large-scale distributed machine learning. Ryan also managed research and production teams in New York and London that were responsible for a number of innovations used in Translate, Assistant, Cloud and Search.

Before joining Google, Ryan was a Research Assistant at the University of Pennsylvania. Ryan was the first NLP research scientist in both New York and London, and helped grow those groups into world class research organizations.

Ryan McDonald received their Bachelor of Science in Philosophy and Computer Science from the University of Toronto - University College. Ryan then went on to receive their Doctor of Philosophy in Computer and Information Sciences, General from the University of Pennsylvania.
