Nael Barakat

Nael Barakat is a distinguished academic and industry professional currently serving as the Professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Tyler since August 2018. With a strong background in engineering ethics and education, Barakat has held various leadership roles in multiple professional organizations, including Chairperson of the Board at the National Institute of Engineering Ethics and past leadership positions within ASEE and ASME. Barakat has demonstrated expertise in capacity building, technical consulting, and effective leadership training in industrial and manufacturing contexts. Previous academic roles include Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Professor and Chair at Grand Valley State University. Barakat holds a Ph.D. and M.A. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from McMaster University and Concordia University, respectively, and a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Kuwait University.
