Renee Smith

Renee Smith is the current Executive Director of Aspirus Network and has been with the company since 2006. Renee assumed the Interim Executive Director role in January 2006 and was subsequently named Executive Director while remaining as Chief Medical Officer. Renee reports to the ANI Board of Directors, President and CEO of Aspirus Inc., as well as the Senior Vice President of Managed Care and Population Health. Renee is accountable for the financial health of Aspirus Network.

As Executive Director, Renee leads a team in the management of network contracting, engagement, delegated credentialing, quality, data analytics, population health, and care management areas. Renee oversees contract negotiation strategy with members and health plans and has successfully overseen a comprehensive network restructure and re-contracting. This has improved alignment of physician practice members and enhanced clinical integration, leading to 100% of practices resigning contracts and increased operational efficiencies.

Renee has also led the strategic development of a system-wide sales and account management structure, including traditional business health services, care management, and the health system health plan. In addition, they initiated and delegated leadership of a project to a multi-disciplinary group for implementation of a comprehensive software platform to improve credentialing, commercial payor enrollment, government payor enrollment, and medical staff privileging across the entire Aspirus Network.

Looking to the future, Renee is focused on designing and implementing strategic plans to prepare network members for value-based contracts

Renee Smith received their Bachelor of Science in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Renee then attended the Medical College of Wisconsin where they earned their Doctor of Medicine. After completing their residency in Family Medicine at Waukesha Family Practice Residency, they went on to earn their Master of Business Administration from UW Oshkosh MBA Program.

Renee Smith reports to Mark Wernicke, SVP - Managed Care & Population Health. Renee Smith works with and Brett Davis - President, Aspirus Arise Health Plan.
