Michael Kelly is a business leader with over 30 years experience working with growth-oriented businesses in Canadian and international markets. Michael was in various executive roles for [Trican Well Service Ltd](/org/trican-well-service-ltd).  from 1997 - 2013 and helped lead Trican from a regional Canadian service company to a global presence with operations spanning North America, MENA, Australia, Russia and Kazakhstan. 

Michael currently chairs the Boards of Habitat Life Science and Enersoft Inc. and has extensive board experience having served both public and private company boards in a variety of industries including: oil field services, AgTech, cannabis and digital technology. 

Michael is an experienced finance professional who holds the CPA CA designation as well as being a certified director having earned the ICD.D designation. 

Michael Kelly

Don Smitten worked for 20 years as President and CEO for the Alberta Motor Association (AMA) and also served as CEO and board member for two AMA subsidiaries: Alberta Motor Association Insurance Company and [Bridgewater Bank](/org/bridgewater-bank).  He brings a wealth of experience in risk management, strategic planning, organizational culture, growth and purpose from his various executive positions held in his tenure at the AMA. 

Don served on the board of the Canadian Automobile Association, Travel Systems Technology, LLC and various not for profit organizations He currently is a board member of [Excel Society](/org/excel-society) and sits on their Governance Committee.

Don has a B Comm from the [University of Alberta](/org/university-of-alberta) and is a CPA.

Donald Smitten

As the Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer & Corporate Secretary, Stuart is the ‘sense-maker in chief’ for ATB Financial, understanding, translating and predicting the impacts in the external sustainability environment. He leads the Greater Good strategy including the social impact partnerships. He is responsible for procurement practices and activities. Stuart directs the legal affairs of ATB and its subsidiaries to ensure their rights, activities and interests are legally protected. He also supports the work of the board of directors and provides thought leadership to improve the performance of ATB’s business through good governance. He is a board member of ATB’s Wealth subsidiaries and ATB’s Capital Markets subsidiary.

Stuart joined ATB in 1997 and has progressively taken on new challenges and accountabilities through various roles within the organization. He represented ATB on the Pan Canadian Investors Committee for Third Party Structured ABCP during the financial crisis of 2007/08.

Stuart is known for his intense curiosity and his passion for developing others which he says is fostered by the culture and environment at ATB. He is grateful to work for an organization that has clear values that he shares. He is strategic, creative, and pragmatic in his approach to problem solving. He credits his work ethic - to seek integrity - to his father and to his deeply ingrained Alberta roots. And, if you can’t find him at work, you’ll find him with his family, or out touring on his motorcycle.

Stuart received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta. His ICD.D designation is from the Institute of Corporate Directors and is qualified by the Canadian Securities Institute to act as a Partner, Director and Officer. In 2014 Stuart was appointed Queen’s Counsel in the Province of Alberta, and in 2019 he was recognized as the Governance Professional of the Year by the Governance Professionals of Canada.

Stuart McKellar

What drew Dan to ATB is our relentless focus on purpose, and our balance of social responsibility and profitability. Most importantly though, Dan believes ATB’s 'why' aligns with his own values. His 'why' is to truly make a difference and to impact people’s lives in a positive and authentic manner.

Dan is a highly-accomplished financial service executive and corporate officer and has spent significant time in senior leadership with companies such as [Bank of America](/org/bank-of-america), [Capital One](/org/capital-one), and Ernst & Young. Dan is actively involved with the FinTech community and was also a part of [eBay](/org/ebay) at the height of the internet revolution.

Dan has established a reputation as a sage business advisor who strategically balances stakeholder needs with those of the business. His 30-years of experience has gained him an expert knowledge base in financial/commercial business operations, financial planning/reporting, forecasting, expense management, corporate development, and strategy. He has a proven track record of growing businesses and finding innovative solutions to modern day business challenges.

Originally from South Africa, Dan is a Chartered Accountant and Certified Public Accountant. Dan is the former chairman of the Board of Directors for the Humane Society of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Dan Hugo

Camille is an eternally-optimistic and purpose-driven leader.

Beginning her career in newsrooms across Alberta, Camille took complex information and translated it into compelling stories. She listened, learned, and loved exploring our province and its people, sharing their moments of pride and sorrow.

Moving on to lead communications and marketing teams for government ministries, she advised senior management and elected officials as a member of the Alberta Public Affairs Bureau. She served in the Emergency Operations Centre for the 2011 Slave Lake wildfire response and the 2013 High River flood response.

Today, Camille leads the Office of the CEO and builds strong relationships across the organization to translate strategy into action. As ATB’s lead for government relations, Camille forms meaningful connections and fosters a strong partnership with ATB’s owner—the Government of Alberta—to position ATB as a catalyst for economic growth in the province.

In her time at ATB, she has also led the Corporate Communications, Strategic Coordination and Economics teams and served as the organization's first-ever Managing Director of Customer Obsession.

Camille is a gifted listener and keen observer who sees patterns and opportunities others may miss. She has a passion for people—connecting with, learning from, and leading them. 

Camille holds a Masters of Business Administration. She sits on the SingularityU Canada Summit Advisory Board and is an official member of [Forbes Communications Council](/org/forbes-communications-council). She is a two-time recipient of the Premier of Alberta’s Award of Excellence (2010 and 2011), and a Gold Ribbon Award Finalist with the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (2008).

Camille Weleschuk

Manjit Minhas is an entrepreneur and venture capitalist in the liquor industry. She also appears as a television personality on the Canadian reality series, Dragons’ Den. Manjit’s unique experience has given her a range of knowledge in brand development, marketing, sales management, and retail negotiation.

Manjit has enjoyed a variety of board experiences, including as a former co-chair of the [United Way](/org/united-way) campaign and a previous director of West Island College and TransCanada Trail. Manjit has her BSc from the University of Regina and her ICD.D from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

She sits on the Human Resources Committee, and the Governance and Conduct Review Committee.

Manjit Minhas

Andrew (Andy) Fraser is the current CEO of NCSG Crane and Heavy Haul, the previous CEO of Camex Equipment Sales and Rentals, and has over 30 years of experience with [Finning](/org/finning-international-inc) holding a variety of senior roles across the company’s Canadian and International operations.

Andy brings a wealth of executive management experience in sales, marketing, operations and customer relations. Over the past 14 years Andy has also served as a Director on various boards both locally and internationally. He has also completed the Directors Education Program at the Institute of Corporate Directors, [University of Alberta](/org/university-of-alberta)/Rotman where he received his Certified ICD.D Director Status.

Andy received his BA in Economics at [Wilfrid Laurier University](/org/wilfrid-laurier-university) in Waterloo, Ontario majoring in International Trade Theory. He then attended [Royal Roads University](/org/royal-roads-university) in Victoria, BC, where he received a Masters in Business Administration with his major being Project Research in Culture Change during Mergers and Acquisitions.

Andy sits on the Audit Committee and the Human Resources Committee.

Andrew Fraser

Rob Logan is the retired CEO of Osprey Informatics, a Calgary-based AI company.

Rob brings a unique combination of experience having served as an executive with both a Canadian and a US multinational bank; CEO of two Alberta-based technology companies and Advisor to a SME acquisition fund; as well having been a member of several public and private Boards.

Rob holds a Jt. Hons. BSc. from the [University of Waterloo](/org/university-of-waterloo), a MBA from University of Western Ontario, and an ICD.D designation. During his career, Rob’s leadership helped accomplish three successful corporate turnarounds, two world-class business builds, as well as the adoption of game-changing AI technologies at Osprey.

Currently Rob is active as a mentor and investor at [Galatea Technologies](/org/galatea-technologies) and in the Alberta technology community. Rob sits on the Audit Committee and the Risk Committee.

J. Robert Logan

Jim Davidson co-founded [FirstEnergy](/org/firstenergy) Capital Corp. (“FirstEnergy”) in 1993, Canada’s leading energy-focused investment bank prior to retiring from the organization in 2018.

In 2016, he was both inducted into the IIAC Investment Industry Hall of Fame and awarded a "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Oil & Gas Council. Jim is also the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Governor General of Canada.

Through Jim’s leadership, [FirstEnergy](/org/firstenergy) won numerous awards for both business leadership and community service. [FirstEnergy](/org/firstenergy) was recognized as one of “Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies” and the “Best Workplace for Volunteerism and Community Involvement." In 2014, [FirstEnergy](/org/firstenergy) was awarded the “Generosity of Spirit Corporate Philanthropist” award during National Philanthropy Week.

Jim’s stewardship includes tenure as governor of the former Alberta Stock Exchange and board of trustees of The Fraser Institute. Jim sits on the Human Resources Committee and the Risk Committee.

Jim Davidson

As ATB’s Chief Experience Officer (CXO), Chris Turchansky is focused on bringing to life a different kind of customer experience. He has a passion for ensuring Albertans are provided advice and solutions that support their financial goals and dreams, and for helping customers enhance their financial literacy.

Chris’ career began over 23 years ago; 15 of those years have been with ATB. Delivering an outstanding customer experience has played a critical role in Chris’ journey from advisor and regional manager, to managing director, to President of ATB Wealth and, now, to his current role as Chief Experience Officer.

Chris was central to the launch of ATB Wealth; bringing together ATB’s investment and private banking divisions to provide a truly unique wealth management experience. Under his leadership, ATB Wealth made a promise to Albertans to be worthy of their full trust by providing honest, transparent advice, and by keeping their best interest at heart. With that primary focus on customer experience, ATB Wealth surpassed significant milestones—including achieving $21B in assets under administration—while serving the wealth management needs of over 80,000 clients.

Growing up in a small Alberta town, Chris understands and appreciates the strong sense of community that exists across the province and within ATB. Throughout his career, Chris has drawn upon these experiences to help team members come together. He is committed to meeting customer demands for advice, flexibility, efficiency, and ease of access, amplified by integration of banking activities and personalized service.

Chris holds a Commerce Degree from the [University of Alberta](/org/university-of-alberta), an MBA from [Athabasca University](/org/athabasca-university), and he has earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. His commitment to the community is demonstrated by his involvement with the Hockey Alberta Foundation and the Portfolio Management Association of Canada.

Chris Turchansky

As the Chief Risk Officer, Lisa has overall responsibility for [ATB Financial](/org/atb-financial)'s Risk Management and Compliance functions. She also supports ATB's performance through the strategic oversight of risk-taking activity, the management of risk, risk appetite framework, and compliance across the organization. Lisa is supported by a team of risk management professionals with expertise spanning the risk disciplines of credit, market/liquidity, operational, regulatory, and strategic/execution.

Lisa joined ATB in 2012 as the Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management. Her portfolio included ATB's Enterprise Risk Management and was expanded to include legislative compliance management, privacy, anti-money laundering, operational risk, stress testing, and business continuity management. Prior to joining ATB, Lisa held numerous roles at other organizations and financial institutions; each one furthering her risk and compliance management experience. In 2017, Lisa moved into the role of Chief Risk Officer, which includes participation in the Enterprise Risk Management Committee, Asset Liability Committee, Ethics Committee, and a number of other senior management committees.

With her 20+ years experience in banking, risk management and consulting, Lisa knows that genuine relationships, mutual understanding and trust form the foundation of a strong risk culture.

Lisa holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at [York University](/org/york-university) and a Bachelor of Business Commerce from Memorial University.

Lisa McDonald

Robert Pearce has gained experience through various advisory and C-suite roles in the energy business. He worked as President, CEO, and Co-founder of North West Upgrading, as Treasurer of PanCanadian Energy, and as COO of Harvest Operation Corp.

He has his B.A.Sc. in geological engineering from the [University of British Columbia](/org/university-of-british-columbia), his MBA from the [University of Calgary](/org/university-of-calgary), and his ICD.D from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Robert sits on the Risk Committee and the Audit Committee.

Robert Pearce

John is a high-performing senior executive with a proven track record for growing businesses. Throughout his career, he has led digital transformations, executed complex strategic programs and disrupted conventional thinking to deliver results.

Not your typical banker, John began his career as a competitive ski racing coach. During this time, he had the opportunity to travel the world while working closely with competitive athletes to help them achieve their goals. Following a decade of professional coaching, John entered the financial services industry. He's spent the last two decades transforming digital, payment, and financial service experiences, by placing the customer at the center of everything he does.

As technology and data continue to evolve and enable new and empowering customer experiences, one of the opportunities for the industry—and a focus for ATB—is to prepare team members for the future. John believes it is more important now than ever that they are adaptable and able to keep pace with the needs and expectations of our customers. John is committed to the continuous development of the more than 2,500 team members that report to him, with a focus on ensuring they're skilled in developing strong, trusted relationships.

With an educational background in investments and economics, John has a passion for customer experience excellence and is a coach at heart. Whether he's dealing with high-performance athletes, his kids or his teammates at ATB, John takes every opportunity to motivate, inspire and bring out peak performance in everyone he deals with.

John Tarnowski

Jill Matthew is the Vice President, Administration and Chief Financial Officer at NorQuest College and the previous Chief Customer Experience Officer, bringing with her comprehensive financial acumen and literacy and extensive client experience knowledge. She brings over 30 years of business experience in both the private and public sectors. Jill has extensive knowledge and experience in strategic planning, performance management, risk management, corporate development, customer service and retail energy operations, having served over 9 years with NorQuest College and 13 years with EPCOR in various executive roles. 

Jill is the Chair of the Bissell Centre and Chair of the Human Resources & Governance Committee for the Alberta Safety Codes Council.  She was the previous Audit Committee Chair for [Athabasca University](/org/athabasca-university) and in 2013 she was inducted into the university. 

Jill is a Chartered Accountant, Certified Management Consultant, and holds an Institute of Corporate Directors designation.

Jill Matthew

Joan Hertz chairs [ATB Financial](/org/atb-financial)’s Board of Directors. She previously served as a director at ATB from 2008 to 2018 and as Chair of the Governance and Conduct Review Committee. ​

Joan is currently Interim President and CEO of NorQuest College and is a corporate commercial lawyer and strategic consultant. She serves as a board member and Chair of the Audit Committee for Edmonton International Airport. Joan vice-chairs the Board for [Covenant Health](/org/covenant-health) and chairs their Growth and Innovation Committee. Joan also sits as a public member on the Chartered Professional Accountants Canada Board. 

She has served on Alberta’s Promise and was formerly with the Kids Kottage Foundation and Edmonton Catholic Cemeteries boards, as well as with numerous other Crown and community boards.

Joan Hertz

Barry James chairs the Board’s Audit Committee and is a member of the Board’s Risk Committee. 

He serves on fiduciary and advisory boards of public and private companies, foundations, and other organizations and is Chief Corporate Development Officer at Lloyd Sadd Insurance Services. 

Barry has a BCom with distinction from the [University of Alberta](/org/university-of-alberta), CA from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, Fellowship of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of Alberta, and ICD.D from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Barry was a partner at PwC, including 10 years as Managing Partner of the Edmonton office.

Barry James

Mary Ellen Neilson was Executive Director at the Association for Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured until early 2020. She is an elected senator for the [University of Calgary](/org/university-of-calgary) and a member of the Board of Governors, where she vice-chairs the Investment Committee and chairs the Finance and Property Committee.

Mary Ellen has had a successful career in financial services, where she has held various senior executive positions. She has served on and chaired various boards, committees, and organizations. She has her BCom from the [University of Calgary](/org/university-of-calgary), her MBA from [York University](/org/york-university), her CMA and CPA from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta, and her ICD.D from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

She sits on the Risk Committee, and the Governance and Conduct Review Committee.

Mary Ellen Neilson

With 25 years in the investment industry, Ursula brings tremendous experience to ATB Wealth. She is a dedicated leader who inspires her team to provide valuable and timely advice to clients; keeping clients’ evolving needs and goals central to the holistic wealth and private banking services provided by ATB Wealth.

During her more than 13 years with ATB, Ursula has contributed to the growth of the wealth business from $4B to $25B in assets under administration. As the executive leader of both finance and operations, Ursula has been a dynamic force inside ATB Wealth, helping to carve a path forward by challenging the status quo, encouraging healthy debate, and tackling old problems in new and creative ways.

Ursula previously spent 10 years with a boutique firm, Peters & Co. Limited as a Partner and Controller, and several years with Stephen Avenue Securities Inc.

Ursula Holmsten

Having worked as a financial executive, holding positions in major oil and gas companies, Wendy Henkelman has gained comprehensive experience in all aspects of the finance industry. 

She worked as Vice President of Treasury and Compliance, and as an executive in charge of information technology with Penn West Exploration. She was also executive in charge of tax and royalties at Shell Canada. Wendy has her BCom with distinction from the [University of Alberta](/org/university-of-alberta), is a CPA and CA, completed the In-depth Income Tax program through the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada, and completed an executive leadership program from Wharton School of Business at the [University of Pennsylvania](/org/university-of-pennsylvania).

Wendy chairs the Human Resources Committee and sits on the Audit Committee.

Wendy Henkelman

As the Chief People Officer, Tara oversees ATB’s human resources and team member programs, change management, and internal communications. With a significant tenure in the banking and insurance industries, Tara brings a wealth of leadership experience in human resources and talent development to the People & Culture team at ATB.

Prior to joining ATB, Tara was the Global Head of Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness for [Manulife](/org/manulife) where she was responsible for developing and overseeing initiatives such as global HR practices, learning, culture, change management and employee experience. Before her decade at [Manulife](/org/manulife), she was the Head of Enterprise Business Engagement and Implementation for Global HR at [CIBC](/org/cibc). Working alongside senior HR leaders and business executives, she helped design and implement integrated global solutions in the areas of risk mitigation, onboarding, and leadership and management development. She also provided specialized support in the creation of change management and development strategies for complex business transformation initiatives in the divisions of investment banking, technology and risk management.

An adventurer at heart, Tara’s career has taken her from eastern Canada to Asia, and now brings her and her family to Alberta. Tara is excited about the journey ATB is on and where it’s going, and believes that People & Culture can play a big role in that journey.

Tara holds a B.A. in business communications from the [University of Windsor](/org/university-of-windsor), a diploma in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier, and a designation as a Certified Insurance Professional from the Insurance Institute of Canada.

Tara Lockyer

As ATB’s President and CEO, Curtis Stange could have a million priorities, but really he has just one: our customers. He knows that by instilling that same focus into all 5,500+ team members, ATB can use its expertise to change the lives of Albertans for the better.

For more than three decades, Curtis has dedicated himself to making banking work for people. He began his career at one of Canada’s “Big Five” banks and was then recruited to ATB, where he helped launch a new line of business focused on Alberta entrepreneurs. He played a key role in the transformation of our banking system, which was ATB’s biggest tech challenge in a generation. Curtis has led ATB to new places, like the implementation of the world’s first full-featured virtual banking assistant in Facebook Messenger, our adoption of new tech like Apple Pay and Blockchain, and the launch of ATB BoostR. Most recently, Curtis was ATB’s first Chief Customer Officer, where he led the business in ensuring the customer was at the centre of everything we do.

Born, raised and educated on the Prairies, Curtis loves the Rockies, road biking, and spending time with his family. He believes he would have made a great firefighter or farmer if he hadn't gone into banking. He also believes that anything is possible if you take the time to listen and work hard.

Curtis is a Stanford alumnus and a proud recipient of the Order of Athabasca University for his public service work. As a strong mental health advocate, he is a member of the Alberta Government’s Mental Health Advisory Council. He also serves as a member of the Alberta Business Council, Edmonton International Airport and Visa Canada advisory boards, the Stars air ambulance board and is the co-chair of the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Curtis Stange

Diane Pettie is a retired lawyer with over 35 years of legal experience and significant executive experience in the energy and chemical sectors. She has her Juris Doctorate from the [University of Alberta](/org/university-of-alberta), is a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada, and has her ICD.D from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Diane chairs the Governance and Conduct Review Committee and sits on the Human Resources Committee.

Diane Pettie

The leadership team at ATB Financial has a long history of experience in the financial industry. The team includes a CFO and COO, both of whom have worked at AltaCorp Capital Inc. and Jennings Capital Inc. in the past. Both team members also have a long history of education in the field, with degrees from top universities.
