Christopher R. Welp

Christopher R. Welp is the Executive Vice President of Insurance Operations for Athene USA. Christopher has over 28 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Christopher began their career in 1982 with Ernst & Young in the audit department of their Des Moines office. Christopher was later transferred to the tax department where they advised commercial and individual clients. In 1989, they joined ING and held various positions including Chief Operating Officer of the Retail Annuity Group. Christopher left ING in 2010 to join Athene.

At Athene, Christopher is responsible for all aspects of insurance operations including product development, pricing, underwriting and claims. Christopher is a key leader in the organization and has helped Athene become one of the largest fixed annuity providers in the United States.
