Alexandra Almenara

Alexandra is Ausenco's Vice President of E&S for South America based in Peru and brings over 18 years of experience in various corporate leadership, consulting, operations and business development positions within the mining, energy, and gas industries internationally. Alexandra leads the Geotechnical & Tailings, Construction Support Services, Water Resources, Environmental Permitting, Social Management & Remediation teams, as well as the Virtualization and New Technologies working group. A key objective of her position is to enhance collaboration between all business lines at Ausenco to provide complete pit-to-port services for our mining clients.

As a leader, Alexandra offers her experience in working collaboratively with global teams and, above all, providing an inclusive environment through mentorship and advocating for women in mining. She is the current president of Women in Mining Peru, an exciting challenge she undertook in 2018.

Alexandra began her professional career in the late 90's as a biologist in the mining industry through a professional internship at the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), specifically in the Directorate of Environmental Affairs in Lima, Peru. In this role - where she was one of the first biologists hired by the institution - she was introduced to responsible mining, evaluating environmental impact studies (EIS) and social studies. She later completed a Masters in Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development in the USA before returning to Peru in 2004 to work at Golder Associates as Lead Biologist for the Terrestrial Biology team. Here, she was responsible for various disciplines involved in EIAs, project management and team management. Additionally, she took a two-year assignment in Golder Associates' offices in Canada (Toronto and Calgary) as a Risk Assessment and Project Coordinator.

In 2011, Alexandra joined SNC Lavalin Peru as Socioenvironmental Area Manager, responsible for establishing a team of about 100 people before assuming the role of General Manager for the engineering, construction services and geotechnical teams.

Alexandra attended the School of Biology at the Cayetano Heredia University in Peru and holds two master's degrees; an MBA from the EGADE Business School from The Monterrey's Technology Institute in Mexico and an MSc in conservation biology and sustainable development from the University of Wisconsin in the USA.
