Maureen Burgess Chalfen

Maureen Burgess Chalfen is an experienced educator with a robust background in English and innovative teaching practices. Currently serving as a Faculty Associate at Bard College since 2011, Maureen develops and facilitates workshops focused on writing-based analysis and composition for schools and teachers. Prior roles include leadership positions at The Hewitt School from 2007 to June 2023, such as Assistant Head for Learning and Innovation and Head of Middle School, as well as teaching leadership at Convent of the Sacred Heart from 2001 to 2007. Maureen's academic credentials include a PhD and M.A. in English from The Ohio State University, where Maureen was engaged from 1991 to 2000, and a BA in English from Fairfield University.
