Mike Smaje

Mike Smaje is a seasoned professional in the pensions and investment sectors with over three decades of experience. Currently serving as a Professional Trustee at BESTrustees since March 2020, Mike provides high-quality governance to occupational pension funds and chairs multiple trustee boards. Prior roles include Partner at Aon, where Mike focused on investment advice and risk management strategies, and Investment Specialist at Standard Life Investments, emphasizing liability-aware solutions. As Director of Investment Services at First Actuarial, Mike led the development of investment consulting capabilities, and earlier at Willis Towers Watson, Mike acted as lead investment consultant for a significant range of pension fund clients. Mike holds a Certificate in Pension Trusteeship from the Pensions Management Institute, is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, and earned a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from The University of Manchester.
