Bill Shoemaker

Chief Test Pilot at Boom Supersonic

Bill is a former U.S. naval aviator, and graduate of the United States Naval Test Pilot School. During his 21-year career as an F-18 pilot, he completed five combat deployments, and twice served as a squadron commanding officer. His military flight test experience includes the first flight of the Block II Super Hornet. Before coming to Boom Supersonic, Bill was chief test pilot at Zee.Aero where he expanded the flight envelopes of prototype electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. He is a graduate of Stanford University (PhD Aeronautics and Astronautics, 1994, BS Physics, 1989) and the California Institute of Technology (MS Aeronautics, 1990). Bill has flown more than 5,000 flight hours in 50 aircraft types, and has 900 carrier arrested landings. Bill’s FAA pilot certificate reads commercial pilot: airplane single & multiengine land; instrument airplane; rotorcraft-helicopter; glider.
