Chief Medical Adviser

Barry Klaassen MBE is a highly experienced medical professional with a distinguished career in emergency medicine. Currently serving as Chief Medical Adviser at the British Red Cross since January 2014, Barry leads the EM-Malawi project for The Scottish Government, aimed at establishing an Adult Emergency and Trauma centre in Malawi. Barry has been a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at NHS Tayside and an Hon Senior Lecturer in Emergency Medicine at the University of Dundee Medical School since April 1998. Previous roles include Senior Registrar and Hon Lecturer in Emergency Medicine at NHS Grampian from August 1993 to April 1998. Barry's educational background includes a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), and a BSc (Hons) in Medical Microbiology and Bacteriology from the University of Dundee, along with Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Emergency Medicine.
