John McArthur is a distinguished leader in sustainable development, currently serving as the Director and Senior Fellow at the Center for Sustainable Development within The Brookings Institution since 2014. As the inaugural Director since 2020, McArthur spearheads research and collaborative initiatives addressing global economic, social, and environmental challenges. Co-founder and Co-chair of 17 Rooms, a partnership with The Rockefeller Foundation, McArthur promotes innovative approaches to sustainable development. Additional roles include Senior Advisor on Sustainable Development for the United Nations Foundation and a member of the Sustainability Advisory Board for Novata. McArthur's experience includes significant leadership positions at Millennium Promise Alliance, Columbia University, and the United Nations Millennium Project, complemented by a robust academic background with degrees from the University of Oxford, Harvard Kennedy School, and The University of British Columbia.
