Shelley Mallett has a diverse work experience with various roles in the field of social policy and research. Shelley started their career in the early 1980s as a Speech Pathologist and continued working in this field until the mid-1990s. In 1997, they worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Gender Relations Project at The Australian National University. From 2000 to 2002, they were a Research Director for the Project i on Youth Homelessness at La Trobe University. Shelley also served as a General Manager of Research and Social Policy at Melbourne City Mission from 2008 to 2009. In 2010, they became the General Manager of Research and Service Development at Hanover Welfare Services. Since 2014, they have held multiple roles, including Professorial Fellow in Social Policy at the University of Melbourne and Director of the Research and Policy Centre at Brotherhood of St Laurence. Shelley'swork experience has spanned across academia, research institutions, and non-profit organizations.
Shelley Mallett completed their education at La Trobe University. Shelley obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Anthropology from 1991 to 1996, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with Honors in Sociology from 1987 to 1990, and a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Speech Pathology from 1978 to 1981. Additionally, they obtained certifications in various areas, including Finance for New Directors Training from the Australian Institute of Company Directors in 2009, and Certificates of Mediation and Parent/Adolescent Mediation from the Noble Park Mediation Centre and CDR Associates, respectively, in 1990.
