Partner in Charge, Tax Services and Retail Industry Group Leader at Brown Smith Wallace

Marty is the Partner-in-Charge of the tax group of Brown Smith Wallace. He is responsible for overall client service and technical oversight of the tax practice, as well as training staff on best practices and new tax developments.

Marty comes from The May Department Stores Company where he served as the senior vice president – tax. Before that he was a partner with Arthur Andersen, where he headed up the firm’s national retail tax practice.

While at May, Marty handled all aspects of perpetual IRS audits and negotiations, and dealt with numerous state income tax and sales tax audit issues. He was instrumental in initiating and implementing numerous tax advantaged business strategies including the formation of the largest captive insurance company incorporated in the state of Vermont. His areas of expertise also include mergers and acquisitions, compensation planning, inventory and other accounting methods.
