Sameea Kamal

Sameea Kamal is an experienced journalist with a focus on California politics and investigative reporting. As a Reporter + Digital for CalMatters since June 2021, Sameea tracks legislative bills, monitors the budget process, and explores civic engagement and democracy. Prior roles include serving as News Desk Editor at the Los Angeles Times, leading digital strategy at the Center for Public Integrity, and working as a Digital Editor for the Los Angeles Times Media Group. Sameea's investigative work includes a fellowship with Investigative Reporters and Editors, focusing on campus sexual assault. Educational credentials include a Master of Science in Journalism from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from the University of California, Berkeley.
