Meryl Burgin

EVP, Corporate Governance at CareFirst

Meryl Burgin is the Executive Vice President of Corporate Governance at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. In her role, which she has held since January 2013, Ms. Burgin directs the Legal, Audit and Compliance Divisions of the company. Prior to joining the company in 1990 as a corporate employment attorney, she was an associate with the law firm of Whiteford, Taylor & Preston in Baltimore. Ms. Burgin has served as a council member of the Employment Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association, is a member of the Health Law Section of the American Bar Association and has served on several volunteer boards. She currently serves on the Board and Corporate Governance Committee of the House of Ruth Maryland, a non-profit entity that provides comprehensive intimate partner violence shelter, education and training. She was also elected to the Maryland Access to Justice Commission as a Commissioner effective January 1, 2017.

Ms. Burgin received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and graduated with honors from the University of Baltimore School of Law. She is a graduate of Leadership Maryland and a recipient of a Daily Record Leadership in Law award.
