Paul Scharre

Paul Scharre currently serves as Vice President and Director of Studies at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), a position held since 2014, while also leading the Technology and National Security Program and the 20YY Warfare Initiative. Prior to his role at CNAS, Paul Scharre worked at the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 2008 to 2013 as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and as a Strategic Planner. Paul Scharre's military experience includes serving as a Civil Affairs Specialist in the US Army from 2006 to 2008 and as an Army Ranger Reconnaissance Team Leader with the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment from 2001 to 2005. Academic credentials include a Master of Arts in Political Economy and Public Policy from Washington University in St. Louis and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the same institution.
