Max Bartolo

Max Bartolo is an experienced professional in the field of machine learning and natural language processing. Currently serving as the Command Modelling Team Lead at Cohere since October 2022, Max focuses on building advanced large language models like Command R+. Previously held roles include Research Scientist at Cohere, where the emphasis was on enhancing the robustness and accessibility of large language models. As Co-Chair of the Dynabench Working Group at MLCommons since January 2023, Max contributes to collaborative efforts in the AI community. Academic experience includes serving as an Adjunct Teaching Fellow at UCL, developing and teaching a Natural Language Processing module. Max’s prior work includes internships and roles at DeepMind, Facebook AI, and Bloomsbury AI, as well as experience in data science, organizational behavior analysis, and web development. Max holds a PhD in Computer Science from UCL and has degrees in Business Analytics and Mechanical Engineering.
