Neil Drennan

CTO at Currencycloud

Neil Drennan is the current Chief Technology Officer at Currencycloud. Neil was previously the CTO at 10X Future Technologies Limited from March 2018 to July 2021. At 10x, Neil led the technology team in disrupting the financial services industry through the use of cloud technology and agile / hybrid delivery methodologies.

During their time at 10x, Neil grew the engineering organisation from 80 to 330 people, and applied a domain driven model for system and organisation design for over 50 feature teams in different territories. Neil also created, implemented and iterated the 10x platform architecture using a combination of microservices, event driven processing, cloud native toolsets and leading database technologies. In addition, Neil developed the principal engineering community providing cross team architecture, design guidance and assurance.

Neil also launched 2 banks onto live cloud production systems, and implemented Chaos Testing practices and a systematic way for 10x to build a resilient and highly available system through use of Fault Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). Neil also established company wide game days to improve operational run capability, and developed leading platform monitoring and alerting capabilities through use of Prometheus, Grafana and Pager Duty. Furthermore, Neil completed a proof of concept porting the 10x platform onto Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and partially completed a port to Microsoft Azure.

At 10x, Neil also established and Chaired the 10x Technology Advisory Board, with contributors from Google, Cockroach Labs, Confluent and a panel of client CTOs. In addition, they established and Chaired the 10x Technology Risk Committee as a 2nd line risk function. Lastly, Neil was also a member of the 10x Executive Committee and 10x Board Observer.

Neil Drennan obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics with Computing from the University of Warwick.
