Austin McChord

Founder at Datto

Austin McChord founded Datto in 2007 as a college student and served as the CEO of the company for more than ten years. Early on, Austin recognized that the exponential growth of data posed an opportunity to create the most effective business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) solution available outside the enterprise.

With a decidedly “all-in” commitment to MSP selling partners, Austin grew Datto to a global company with more than 14,000 MSP partners through organic innovation and strategic acquisitions. He added managed networking, cloud backup, business management tools, file sync and share, and file backup to Datto’s portfolio, creating an entire ecosystem for a devoted MSP community.

Austin’s life work includes creating a one-of-a-kind culture at Datto. With 32 offices around the globe, Datto has earned hundreds of awards for growth, outstanding workplace, product excellence and technical support. Teams are guided with Datto imperatives that pour over into every single partner interaction including to always “do what’s right for the customer” and to design products with an eye on providing the ultimate user experience.

Austin is an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, was was named to Forbes Magazine’s 30 Under 30, and earned recognition as one of the nation's top 50 philanthropists in 2017 by The Chronicle of Philanthropy. He is a mentor to young entrepreneurs and has spoken around the world on topics such as net neutrality and how tech is transforming business and society across America. He holds several patents and has a degree in Bioinformatics from Rochester Institute of Technology, where he is also a trustee.

Austin is a major investor and serves on the Datto Board of Directors, where he continues to be the driving force behind Datto and its impact on the industry.
