Markus Drouven

Technical Director, Produced Water Optimization ("project Pareto")

Markus Drouven serves as the Technical Director for Energy Systems Optimization at the National Energy Technology Laboratory since September 2020, leading multiple initiatives in this area. Drouven also holds the position of Technical Director for Project PARETO at the U.S. Department of Energy, focusing on produced water management and beneficial reuse. Additionally, since August 2023, Drouven leads the development of PRIMO, an open-source well plugging and abandonment project optimizer, under the National Energy Technology Laboratory. Previous experience includes roles as a Senior Process Engineer at LANXESS, Supervisor Optimization Engineering at EQT Corporation, and positions at ExxonMobil and ABB, complemented by founding Exenity. Drouven holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Process Systems Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and both a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, respectively, from RWTH Aachen University.
