Demetria McCain is the current Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Prior to this, they served as President of THE INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES PROJECT from September 2005 to June 2021, a Staff Attorney at the National Housing Law Project from September 2003 to September 2005, and a Staff Attorney at Neighborhood Legal Services Program from September 2001 to September 2003. Demetria began their career as a Legal Intern at People For the American Way from June 2000 to May 2001, and then as a Judicial Intern at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia from June 1999 to August 1999.

Demetria McCain has a Doctor of Law from Howard University School of Law, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York University, and a Master of Fine Arts from Brooklyn College.
